Gold Medalist Trains at Stone Ridge’s Aquatic Center Designed and Engineered by SUI

When Katie Ledecky turns her attention to the 2020 Olympics, the five-time gold medalist will be able to draw on her prep school training at the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Md. That’s where she began building her reputation as one of the world’s most dominant swimmers.

Stone Ridge’s enclosed aquatic center was designed, engineered and constructed by Structures Unlimited Inc., and features one of Structures Unlimited’s signature motorized operable roofs. It opened in 2005 and remains a top facility.

The competition-size pool, where Ledecky holds seven records, is heated and has eight lanes, two one-meter Duraflex diving boards. The center also has heated women’s and men’s locker rooms, a lobby area and built-in spectator seating.

Structures Unlimited has been a single-source provider of custom-designed natatoriums and pool enclosures for more than four decades. Our proprietary structural aluminum framing systems support Kalwall® translucent panels to provide natural, diffuse daylight that eliminates glare and reduces energy consumption.

The system’s factory pre-finished, corrosion resistant finish (CRF) is long lasting and virtually maintenance free. Options include the integration of both fixed and operable wall glazing for vision and line of sight, motorized operable roofs and opaque metal roof panels for insulation values up to R-46.
